Hiking in Junkerdal
Longer hikes and where to spend the night
The local tourist associations maintain and facilitate great opportunities for hikers in the national park. For those wanting to go on longer trips into the national park, there are plenty of marked paths and unmanned cabins both in and outside the national park. . 60 of the Nordlandruta’s 650 kilometers goes through Junkerdal National Park, from Trygvebu in the south to Lomi in the north. Argaladhytta is the jewel of cabins in the national park and was originally used as a hunting cabin for the people living in the local villages. It is located in the lush Skaitidalen, about a day’s hike from Trygvebu in the small mountain village of Skaiti.

Daytrips from Jakobsbakken
In the north of the national park, close to the small mining community of Sulitjelma, is the mountain mine of Jakobsbakken. The mines are no longer active, but old buildings still stand and lets visitors get a feel of the community that once existed here at the frontier of the national park. Here you can experience the exciting history of Jakobsbakken and enjoy shorter day trips with beautiful views. IKKE RELEVANT In winter Jakobsbakken offers great ski tracks and opportunities to see the northern lights.
Ascending Solvågtinden
Solvågtinden is a landmark in Saltdal municipality and a familiar sight for those who traverse along the E6 across Saltfjellet. The steep summit looks completely inaccessible when seen from Junkerdalen in the south, but it is possible to hike it from the north. The hike begins at Nordland National Park Center and is both long and demanding – 18 kilometers in total, with a climb of 1434 meters.
