Jakobsbakken

In the north of the national park, close to the small mining community of Sulitjelma, is the mountain mine of Jakobsbakken. The mines are no longer active, but old buildings still stand and lets visitors get a feel of the community that once existed here at the frontier of the national park. To get here, make an exit south of Fauske and follow the signs towards Sulitjelma and Jakobsbakken. Jakobsbakken is a great starting point for experiences both in summer and winter. The road to Jakobsbakken is cleared of snow all through winter. Jakobsbakken offers exciting history, amazing ski tracks and great possibilities to see the northern lights. There are several places to spend the night that also arrange activities – Jakobsbakken Mountain Resort, Sulitjelma tourist center and Sulitjelma mountain village.
